2.  Hindu devotees apply vibhuti traditionally as three horizontal lines across the forehead and other parts of the body to honor Shiva. 
3. Vibhuti smeared across the forehead to the end of both eyebrows is called Tripundra.

6. My grandmother ,in Tanjore, she used to collect the cow- dung and the rice hay and make them in to balls. She used to keep them all round in a circle and allow them to slow burn.It will be there until all get burnt.Nobody disturbed that,Finally she will collect them and filter them carefully.You will really get a fine ash which we all used at home everyday.She also used to smear her forehead with that vibhoothi. She was a staunch devotee of Lord Siva.Even now I remember how she used a walking stick and with  her little bent back going to Brihadeeswara temple and some temples in vadakku(North)main street. We had a dog ,which used to accompany her all the way.It also used to go along with her everywhere and return.
